 Post subject: Fund Raiser Idea
PostPosted: Mon May 26, 2008 3:22 pm
Veronica visited Point Pleasant on the weekend and came home with this idea; please read and comment:

Quote:
MY COMPUTER WONT LET ME ON THE FORUM RIGHT NOW BUT I WANTED TO MAKE THIS SUGGESTION FOR A FUNDRAISER: WE CONTACT ALL THE GHOSTHUNTING GROUPS WE KNOW OF AND SELL VENDOR SPACE FOR A "PARANORMAL CONFERENCE" OR FALL FESTIVAL OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES. EACH GROUP COULD BRING THEIR PICS AND EVPS AND SELL ANY BOOKS OR TSHIRTS OR ANYTHING ELSE THEY WANT. IF WE MAKE IT AFTER THE WEEKEND OF THE MOTHMAN FESTIVAL-WHICH IS SEPT 20& 21, I THINK-JEFF WAMSLEY WILL TRY TO MAKE IT. HE OWNS THE MUSEUM AND HAS WRITTEN 2 BOOKS ON THE MOTHMAN. I WAS THINKING OF OFFERING HIM FREE VENDOR SPACE IF HE WILL SPEAK FOR MAYBE HALF AN HOUR. I HAVE JAMES WILLIS FROM WEIRD OHIO ON MY MYSPACE. SAME FOR ANYONE ELSE WE CAN GET TO SPEAK. MAYBE I CAN OFFER HIM THE SAME DEAL. WE COULD GIVE THE VENDORS FREE TOURS OF THE MANSION AND CHARGE EVERYONE ELSE REGULAR TOUR PRICES. MAYBE DO TOURS EVERY HOUR IF WE HAVE ENOUGH GUIDES. THE ONLY COST I CAN THINK OF IS MAYBE PORT-A-LET RENTALS. WE WOULDNT NEED TO OFFER FOOD UNLESS DENISE OR ANYONE ELSE WANTS TO PAY FOR VENDOR SPACE AND SELL IT THAT WAY. WE MAY ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS TO GUARD THE BOOTHS OVER NITE IF WE DO SAT & SUN. THE ONLY PLANNING WE WOULD NEED IS APPROVAL FROM THE BOARD, PICKING THE WEEKEND, SETTING PRICES, AND PLANNING INDOOR SPACE IF IT RAINS. WHAT DO YOU THINK? YOU CAN COPY AND POST THIS ON THE FORUM IF YOU LIKE THIS IDEA.

This is basically what I suggested at the meeting and it was said that something like this couldn't be used towards the barn, anything to do with ghost hunts has to be used towards the house. I've been to a paranormal conference/camp out. I thought it was a great time. Problem is finding the speakers. Some of them have managers you would have to go through and could get costly. Which may end up bighting you in the butt more. :) The portable toliet would be a must depending on the amount of people. Something easy could be figured out with food even if it's burgers and dogs, and maybe donuts in the morning. I have everything written down if you want more details. :) I believe it has the potential to raise quiet a bit of money for the center. But, every weekend is sold out up to November. It would have to be on one of the adventure nights. Off to work for now. Talk to you guys again soon. :)

I would challenge that because it doesn't make any sense.

That doesnt make any sence to me either, What difference does it make weather the money goes to the house or the barn.

Has there been a misunderstanding? Sounds as though. Please email Randy or myself with any concerns over this matter.

Thanks.

George

Actually I just re-read the original post it doesn't say anthing about ghost hunting, sounds more like a conference than invesetigations/camp out. So, it is different than what I had orginally suggested. Sorry about that, guess that's what you get for not getting enough sleep. Sorry again

If I understand it correctly, all funds obtained by the Save the Barn committee will be put back for the barn, and when moneys are needed for the barn, we can approach the Treasurer and CEO. The event we're talking about will include many paranormal organizations, ghost hunting teams, authors, vendors, Psychics, speakers about anything paranormal, all renting spots/booths in a Festival type setting around the Mansion, proceeds to go toward the Saving of the Barn. There would be food, scheduled speakers and talks, and many many people to talk to and buy services/equipment from as well as offer scheduled tours and a ghost hunt (or two...depending)

I have just sent an email to the Barn Restoration Committee, with some ideas about getting the Barn reopened very soon, and to have a roofing contractor come in and give us an actual estimate on the barn roof. I have also committed funds if approved by the board of directors to be used to get the barn back opened. It looks as though you have some good ideas, I hope they are presented to the board, or they could be sent to me and I could send out a vote so that you can get whatever fundraiser that you have in mind started. I also want to thank everyone who has offered to volunteer with the Barn, Any volunteer who helps this committee with fund raisers will receive a free ghost hunt and for those who help this committee a great deal will receive a free weekend stay. Ghost hunt would be just for volunteers and Board members and would be on a weekend that will later be announced.
As George has announced Prospect Place is here to stay, we have an Excellent Board of Directors and some really great volunteers.
It will be up to us to make sure that she is here for our childrens children!
Randy

Yes I know, and it is greatly appreciated. Things move slowly sometimes but the time for every project will have it's day! And I hope to be able to see a great deal of Restoration and to see the Barn at least restore enough to be seen by future generations! We have a great Board of Directors and a wonderful volunteer group and our Advisory Council is Top Notch!

So....have we gotten the ball rolling on the Sept. thing? It was thought that we didn't have enough time for the July thing when we started planning, so I'm assuming we are going to get an early start on this one. Have the board met to discuss this one. Has there been a vote? Just keep me in the loop, that's a busy wedding time for me, and you all know I want to contribute to all that is Prospect Place. Hope everyone's doing great. Haven't seen you all in so long.

Good Day!
Denise
