I've been told so many stories about people getting awesome EVPs here and wonder what types of recorders those persons use.....could you give me an idea what the "trick" is to recording EVPs????? Your input would be MUCH appreciated! Like, what type of recorder (digital or tape), what questions to ask, how to sort out noise, etc.... Anybody?

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. I say you could pick up EVP's on any audio. We personally use an olympus recorder we picked up from Best Buy. I'm not sure the exact model number but in my opinion make sure you get one that has the letters PC in them(at least that is with the Olympus). These are the ones that you can download on to your computer and transfer to cd incase you get anything good.

As far as how to catch them. Obviously there is no set way. We have gotten some audio where we're just having a normal conversation and something interjects. We've gotten a few where it seems to be reacting to what we have said. We've left one in a room before and gotten some things. So there is no one thing you have to do to catch one. Hope this helps. We do have to be careful about many of the supposed EVPs some claim. From what I have seen a valid EVP is kind of rare. I know from personal experience in hundreds of hours of recoding I have about 6 EVPs that I would call good. A few more that are marginal, and many that I simply can't make out as anything beyond possible EM interference or noise. Those I just discard.

I always have to doubt people who say they always come away with all these EVPs. Most are using cheap recorders which are prone to all sorts of faults. I think the recorder is the source of most of the problems. When you get a good EVP you'll know it. It won't need any artificial cleaning or any of that stuff. It will be right there, provided you are using good low noise equipment.

That's what I was wondering....I know people who get EVPs all the time and know exactly what the "noise" is "saying"....but all I could tell was there was something making a noise. I thought maybe my recorder was the problem but I guess my skeptic mind IS... However, I'll still try to catch something that I may one day be able to understand. Thanks guys.

I heard a great Evp from one of the Legend Tracker ladies. It says, "His name is Bob" and sounds really erie. Almost like he was sobbing. Made me a little ansey. Plus they caught it on two recorders, loud and plain as could be. This I believe was in the servants quarters.

When things are caught on both recorders but sound different is what kills me. Last month we were at a private home and had 3 recorders 2 sounded different and the 3rd nothing. Why?!

Two recorders picking up the same EVP is not a foolproof way of testing the validity of the audio. It still goes back to the quality of the recorder.

Even though two machines pick up the same thing, if originated as a strong EM field or radio signal which coupled into the electronics, it would obviously be the same voice. It would say the same thing. The differences in the sound easily could come from different makes of recorders. Different makes probably have different circuitry thus the manner of coupling would differ. But the content would be the same.

Solution is to use a well shielded recorder and keep offending signals out all together. Of the three machines you used, just speculating, I would say the one that got nothing was the most accurate. Had there been something there, assuming the recorders were near each other, all should have picked it up.
