They are worried someone would get hurt and sue the foundation. But I'm sure they are appreciative that people want to help.
The Board is very appreciative of the enthusiasm and volunteer spirit of it's friends! However, in this litigious climate today things like the barn roof (which could literally be a killer) should be done by bonded and insured contract labour in order to protect the centre.
There are smaller and less dangerous things which can be done by volunteers. Cleaning is always an issue as is lawn care in the summer. There is little money available now (even though there is more income thanks to Sci Fi Channel/TAPS) as debt elimination is a priority for the Centre at this time. I foresee it taking about two or three years to arrive at a point where the Centre is ready to move forward with brick and mortar work once more.....that said, it WILL happen. The house is not "finished" and neither is this fantastic Board of Directors (contrary to the rumours I have been hearing LOL). A lot of rumour is circulating about the internet and elsewhere that since I am leaving the Centre is finished (even that Longaberger are taking it back). This is not in the least true.
Cheers!
