How long was William Cox at the Prospect Place before he left? And wasn't that because he'd squandered the Adams' fortune? There are rumors that he ran off to San Francisco....Do you know any more about what happened to him after he left PP? ...Did he die of old age??

William and Anna married and were living at the mansion before George passed away in 1879. When George died William and Anna inherited the house. So that would place William here for about 25 years prior to his disappearance. We know that shortly before he disappeared the C&MV Railway (George's railroad) went bankrupt. At the time of the bankruptcy the railway was owned and managed by William.

After William's disappearance nothing more was officially heard of him again. Although a young lady from Dresden, while vacationing in San Francisco a year later, claimed to have seen him there and even chased him through a cigar store trying to catch up to him.

We have no clue as to his ultimate fate.
